A ‘healthy’ building with an emphasis on environmentally friendly materials

Shortlisted for the NSW Architecture Awards by the Australian Institute of Architects, Barker College Rosewood Centre was nominated in the Educational Architecture category.

The architects Neeson Murcutt and Neille selected Spectrum Floors’ Kayar and Uni rubber flooring for the interiors of the college.

Opened in June 2020, Barker’s new centre of movement and learning has been developed with an understanding of the powerful role the physical school environment plays as an educator. A key principle is the ‘celebration of sport for all’ creating a vibrant place that is playful in spirit founded on clear layers of logic.

A ‘healthy’ building with emphasis on environmentally friendly materials and good air quality was the focus in the design of the college’s new building. Spectrum’s Kayar and Uni rubber flooring products were selected because they met the environmentally sustainable requirements for this project. The products’ low VOC was important to meet the requirements for good air quality and a healthy learning environment.

Spectrum Kayar and Uni rubber flooring offer quietness, resilience and comfort. Our rubber flooring is GECA certified and meets or exceeds ISO, EN standards to ensure high quality.

The President of the NSW Chapter of the Australian Institute of Architects Laura Cockburn says the quality of the submissions for the 2021 edition of the awards is of the utmost.

“Architecture’s role in creating spaces that reflect and celebrate community and build strength and resilience into the future has been demonstrated over the course of the past year,” she says.
