Helping achieve a 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built rating

Spectrum’s Mondo Sports Flooring is the flooring of choice for the strength and conditioning areas of the new 6000m2 purpose built Sports Park of LaTrobe University in Melbourne. The Sports Park has a major focus on environmental sustainability. The IAAF approved running track along with Spectrum Sports Impact helped to achieve a 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built rating for the Stadium from the Australian Green Building Council.

With their extensive knowledge of buildings for sports & recreational facilities, Architects Warren Mahoney selected the quality and durability of Rubber sports flooring for the new Sports Park.

Senior Architect, Warren and Mahoney’s Brett Diprose describes the design of the new Sports Park as creating a ‘hubbing’ space for both community, university and elite sports groups in addition to the educational aspects of that.

Commercial tenancies, and indoor stadium with six multi-purpose highball courts and plaza area make this unique sporting facility suitable for students, the local community and elite sports teams from e.g. the Carlton Football Club and the Melbourne Rebels to enjoy.

Key features of the facility include:

  • 6 Star Green Star Design and As Built sustainability rating
  • 60-hectare site masterplan
  • Six indoor highball courts
  • Showcourt facility-capable
  • 3,000m2 workplace
  • 3,000m2 teaching labs
  • Playing fields for Australian football, hockey, soccer and baseball
  • Public leisure spaces

The result for La Trobe University is a unique sporting facility that incorporates a teaching and research building (designed with 5-star Green Star rating) which houses laboratories for biomechanics, strength and conditioning, sports analytics and exercise physiology, as well as modern teaching spaces.
