Brighton Secondary School Tarni Warra
Brighton Secondary School is a leading South Australian educational institution. The school provides secondary education from year 7 to 12. For 2022 the school had decided to lower the first intake year from year 8 to year 7.
As the existing buildings on campus were already well used, there was a need to create a new space for the inaugural year 7 class of 2022. Thus, was born the Tarni Warra building, meaning ‘sound of the waves’ in the Kaurna language.
Tarni Warra houses 12 general learning spaces, 3 STEM labs, a maker space to further STEM learning, a gallery and forum space with break-out areas and common areas spread over the 2 levels.
Within the new space, the school wanted to focus on the quality of the teaching and learning, the culture and climate created, the positive relationships, the sense of care, connection and belonging their students feel during their critical early adolescent years at Brighton Secondary School. As such the quality of the buildings and interiors had to be of the highest quality and able to contribute to creating the special environment of Tarni Warra.
