University of Western Sydney Liverpool Campus
University flooring with BS classic rubber flooring
Wrapped in a double skin of glass, the sculptural form of Liverpool City Campus is the last campus of Western Sydney University to be placed in the heart of western Sydney. The building creates a spectacular backdrop to Macquarie Street Mall.
The building was designed to achieve a green 4-star rating, using the latest technologies to improve efficiency in energy and water consumption.
Stairs are a key feature – with our classic BS steps. Conceived by MPA architects as a means to “connect space and time”, the stairs create a vertical campus.
800 square meters of our iconic BS Classic “stamp” floor, including the stairs, add a touch of Italian style to the bold “Ferrari red” R922 colour.
the last campus of Western Sydney University, Liverpool City Campus extends over nine floors and can accommodate up to 2,500 students.

NDIS Head Office in Geelong, Victoria
Architect: Woods Bagot
This state-of-the-art accessible building, located at the site of the heritage listed Carlton Hotel in Malop Street, will house approximately 600 NDIA staff, centralising the Agency’s national operations.
Architect Woods Bagot chose Spectrum’s Kayar 3mm Rubber flooring for all the open spaces, kitchen & meal areas and breakout spaces. Spectrum’s Kayar Rubber flooring offers optimal environmental and acoustic qualities. The new office will ensure our entire workforce has the accessible facilities, technologies and work environment they need to continue the important work they’re doing in delivering the NDIS to Australians with disability.
Minister for Families and Social Services, Paul Fletcher said the building led the way in accessible design and functionality and supported a range of work environments for people of all abilities.
“Almost 12 per cent of NDIA employees identify as having a disability, so this new office will ensure our entire workforce has the accessible facilities, technologies and work environment they need to continue the important work they’re doing in delivering the NDIS to Australians with disability,” Mr Rob De Luca, former head of the NDIA said.
The six-level building has a 5 Star NABERS (National Australian Built Environmental Rating System) rating, and our Spectrum Kayar flooring is GECA certified, with extremely low VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) offering this project better indoor air quality, leading to a healthier and happier space.
When a product is certified against GECA’s Floor Coverings standard, consumers can be sure that the product has been assessed to meet environmental, human health and ethical impact criteria. GECA certification removes doubt and confusion and makes identifying environmentally and socially preferable products easier.

CSIRO’s state-of-the-art ‘Synergy’
CSIRO is Australia’s national science research agency. Their brand-new HQ in Canberra features Spectrum’s iconic Artigo BS studded flooring.
The state-of-the-art facility (aptly called “Synergy”) at the Black Mountain Science & Innovation Park is a 15,000 sqm building of world-class research and support facilities with purpose-built laboratories.
The structure is essentially two buildings in one, with a carefully hidden building joint. The modern office space links to the laboratory building through steel and glass bridges at each of the four levels.
The workplace design approach considered the voices of the workforce, skeptical of “open plan” solutions for highly concentrated scientific research. So the architects at BVN created clusters, discrete through placement of meeting rooms and central facilities, At the end the building is “porous”, enabling a sense of a greater community.
This innovative building has been recognised with a series of awards in 2018, including;
- RAIA ACT Chapter The Romaldo Giurgola Award for Public Architecture
- RAIA ACT Chapter The Derek Wrigely Award for Sustainable Architecture
- RAIA ACT Chapter Interior Architecture
- Awards The Work Space Winner
For this project we contributed our iconic BS classic.

National Museum of Australia – Canberra
Flooring for two new galleries using Lava rubber flooring
Based in the Nation’s capital and a favourite for school excursions, the National Museum of Australia hosted over a million visitors to exhibits through the last year. In it’s first major refurbishment in the 20 years since opening, nearly a third of the Museum space has now re-opened to the public as two new galleries.
Choosing the flooring for such a major public space requires a balance between durability, safety, acoustic qualities, environment certifications and an aesthetic that complements the space.
Spectrum Lava was chosen as the floor covering that best met those exacting criteria. Lava is an uncoated, embossed rubber surface that creates a stone-like effect.
The flooring is GECA certified with an R10 slip rating and is available in 6 colours inspired by nature.

Spectrum rubber flooring and entrance matting was selected for this innovative project in Sydney. The stunning ground floor not only showcases our product’s exceptional aesthetics, but also the acoustic benefits of rubber. And with extremely low VOC’s (volatile organic compounds) our GECA certified rubber flooring offered this project better indoor air quality, leading to a healthier and happier space.

About the project:
This transformative environment will anchor the capital’s new technology and innovation district and serve as an incubator for CBA’s digital future. Standing at eight stories, the new building harnesses the communal and craft-based concept of the railroad workshop that once operated on the historic site, providing the 4,000 employees with the best spaces, tools and techniques to bring new ideas to life.
The design encourages staff to step outside the digital and into a tactile world. Complementing the prevalence of timber, large elements of the base build are exposed, such as the concrete edge beams, authentic to the history of the site and conveying that this is not a traditional corporate environment. Biophilia is woven through the workplace, with indoor gardens, ample daylight and terraces on both level one and level seven. The project is targeting a 6-Star Green Star and a high NABERS Tenancy Energy rating.
The building’s atrium edge demonstrates a commitment to collaboration. Activated by open collaborative spaces, recessed meeting rooms, and expressed timber room pods, the dynamic and totally flexible space offers opportunities for intellectual exchange and impromptu conversation. Connected to the community, authentic and tactile in its finish, the atrium serves as a viewing point for internal activity. Circulation, including a range of stair types and pathways, weaves in diverse, non-linear routes to invite exploration and interaction.
The agile model is an evolution of the company’s own workplace strategy prototyped in Darling Square. Conceived as a miniature city, the mix of structured and personal spaces provides settings for collaboration balanced by those for independent tasks and retreat. Café-style meeting areas, multipurpose rooms for groups, secluded private booths and outside terraces give staff the freedom to connect from wherever. The clear delineation of these areas invites intuitive movement among them. Technology has been simplified and unified, allowing teams to work effectively in real time, no matter where they are. Booking of meeting rooms and entry to the building and lockers are all accessible from a smartphone app.
